10 MAJOR SIGNS OF THE DAY OF JUDGMENT IN ISLAM
There are many saying of the prophet (Hadith) about the ‘day of judgment’ (Yaumul Qiyamah) and how believing with the occurrence of the day is important to maintain ones faith. The term “yaumul qiyamah” symbolizes the day of resurrection.
Of course, the prophet has told us about it and has listed both the major and minor signs to notify us that when these events starts occurring, his followers should know that the end time or (the beginning of the end) is near, though only Allah knows the exact date and time of the hour.
The 10 Major Signs Of The Day Of Judgement.
These signs are as listed below with some brief explanation for each sign.
- Emergence of Dajjal.
- The Rule of Imam Mehdi
- The Descendant of Prophet Isah A.S (Jesus).
- The Coming Of Yajooj (Gog) And Majooj (Magog).
- The dominance of the Smoke (Fog).
- The Emergence Of Dabbatul Ard (Beast).
- The Sun Will Rise from the West.

- The Fire Will Begin.
- The Kaabah Will Be Destroyed.
1) Emergence of Dajjal
The first major sign of the day of judgment is the coming of ‘Masihud-Dajjal’,
he is known as the world most greatest fitnah. He will come and proclaim
himself as Prophet Isah A.S (Jesus) then later proclaimed himself as God. When he
comes, it is said that he will have the powers to control all sorts of things
like commanding the rain to fall and the land to bring out its treasurers. With
few displays of his power, people with a weak faith will believe he is God
which of course in reality, it is a false signals. The prophet of Allah S.A.W
has said that people alive then should always recite Suratul Khaf as those
reciting the surah will be spared from the fitnah of Dajjal.
2) The Rule of Imam Mehdi
After the world must of have been seriously corrupt, and killings, injustice, evil-doers are at their peak, Imam Mehdi will arise and in his time, there will be fairness, he will fight different enemies of Islam and initiate an Islamic system of justice all around the world.
3) The Descendant of Prophet Isah A.S (Jesus).
After the arrival of Masihud-Dajjal, he will
terrorizes the world and his fitnah will grow throughout the world and
gathering his armies. Then, Prophet Isah A.S will descend from heaven on a
minaret of the mosque at the time of the Subh prayer, Imam Mehdi will now
demonstrate a gesture for Prophet Isah showing him to take lead of the prayer,
then the Prophet will say, Allah has sent the last messenger and there will be
no messenger after him. So the Imam will lead. After that the Prophet Isah will
take his spear and declare war with the muslim armies. His arrival will be
shocking for all those who had been believing lies and wrong perceptions. The
son of Maryam R.A will be successful in killing the dreaded Dajjal. Some says
the prophet will rule for 40 years along with wiping out of Yajooh (Gog) and
Majooj (Magog).
4) The Coming Of Yajooj (Gog) And Majooj (Magog).
Presently, Yajooj (Gog) and Majooj (Magog) are locked in a wall. They are known for causing chaos and destroying the surface of the earth. It was said that a wealthy king named Zulqarnayn who travelled widely across the earth. Then he came across a village and the people of the village told him to save them from the evils of the tribe of Yajooj (Gog) and Majooj (Magog), so Zulqarnayn built a iron wall which they cannot penetrate until doomsday. So on that day, they will penetrate it and they will be out. They will come out from all lofty-lofty places and terrorizes the earth. On coming of prophet Isah, he will go the mountain of Tur Sineen and beg Allah for mercy and killing of Yajooj (Gog) and Majooj (Magog). Then there will be a great rain which will kill them and wipped them off the surface of earth.
5) The dominance of the Smoke (Fog).
The next occurrence will be the smoke (fog),
during this time, there will be a smoke that will cover the surface of the
earth, the smoke will serve as a form of punishment to the unbelievers and a
true believer will suffer a mere cold during this period. It is said that the
smoke will cover the world for 40 days. The Quran says ‘Wait for the day
when smoke appears from the sky’. According to Hadith ‘The smoke will
come from the Sky and will cover all the world for the 40 days’.
6) The
Emergence Of Dabbatul
Ard (Beast).
The emergence of the beast is to separate the
believers from the non – believers at that time, it is said that he will hold
the handstick prophet Musa to make the face of the believers shine and also the
seal of Prophet Suleiman for darkening the face of the non-believers. It is
said in the glorious Quran that; ‘And when the word of torment is fulfilled against them, we shall bring
out from the Earth, a beast for them, to speak to them because mankind believed
not with certainty in Our signs’ .
7) The Sun
Will Rise from
the West.
Another major signs of the day of Judgment is
the rising of the sun from the west and setting in the east. This will only
occur when door of forgiveness has been closed. It was narrated in an Hadith by
Abu Huraira that the Prophet (SAW) said: ‘The Hour will not come until the Sun has risen from the West, and when
it rises and people see it, they will all believe, but that will be when it
will do a person no good to believe, if he believed not before, nor earned good
(by performing deeds of righteousness) through his faith’.
8) The three Earthquakes and Landslides.
Another major signs of the day of judgment is
the three earthquakes, there will be one Earthquake in the East, One in the
west and one in Saudi Arabia. The prophet S.A.W was heard saying that these
earthquakes won’t happen until the level of immorality on earth has reached its
peak. Some people believe that its landslides and not earthquakes.
9)The Fire
Will Begin.
Another major sign of the day of judgment is
the eruption of fire from the direction of Yemen, from the bottom of ‘Aden.
According to Hudhayfah ibn Usayd, the Prophet (SAW) was heard saying ‘The last of them
will be a fire which will emerge from Yemen, and will drive the people to their final place of gathering’.
10)The Kaabah
Will Be Destroyed.
Narrated by Abdullah Ibn ‘Amr, the Prophet
(SAW) said: ‘Dhu’l-Suwayqatayn from
Abyssinia will destroy the Ka’ba and steal its treasure and kiswah. It is as if
I could see him now; he is bald-headed and has a distortion in his wrists. He
will strike the Ka’ba with his spade and pich-axe’. Allah will take
away the Quran from the Earth as well as the good people to protect them from
the last Hour.
Though, the frequent prayers and supplications hold great importance and can protect one from the deeds that happen at the end which prove to be disastrous for them. There are a lot of lesser or minor signs of the day of judgment in Islam which along with these major signs are an indication of the Last Age and many theories based on those signs are made to cross-check their authenticity.
There are about 40 Minor Signs Of the Day of Judgement in Islam which along with these major signs are an indication of the hour.
